Do I have to have a degree in order to become a CSA?
I’m assuming that CSA is crime scene analysis? This is not something we teach in our program. Our program deals more with the analysis and use of data in the criminal justice setting as well as the use of geographical and applied crime mapping technology. A good reference for job descriptions and requirements is the Bureau of Labor Statistics at BLS.gov. I would also encourage you to check with departments and agencies in the area where you plan to work. Keep in mind requirements can be different from state to state or even county to county.
would this program be good if you are looking to get into the probation officer area?
We have several students in our program who are interested in working in the probation after graduation.
You can view a webinar with a current probation officer Wendie Legee http://online.ccj.pdx.edu/career-series-u-s-probation-officer/
In this webinar Wendie Legee will discuss what skills and education are beneficial for work in this field.
