Security & Investigation Careers in Criminology & Criminal Justice

A criminal justice education can provide an excellent foundation for a career in security or investigations. Security professionals provide protection against danger, property loss, or criminals. Investigators gather evidence and information to solve cases. Both career paths can excel with the added knowledge gained during PSU’s online Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice or with a Certificate in Advanced Crime Analysis.

Security Guards are hired by companies to protect private property, employees or maintain order. Many are hired via a security company and are assigned to specific security details.

Private Investigators are hired by individuals or companies to observe, investigate and report legal matters or suspicious claims. They often will work with attorneys and may be hired by individuals to collect evidence in civil claims.

Bail Enforcement Agents (also known as Bounty Hunters) are licensed agents who retrieve individuals who have failed to make their court appearance. Despite the glamour of TV shows and motion pictures, bail enforcement officers conduct extensive searches based on principles of criminology to apprehend their bounties.
