International Students Admission (Undergraduate)
Here are the required steps required for an international student to complete their application to Portland State University:
- They will need to meet the general requirements to enter our program as far as GPA and transfer credits.
- They will need to complete an undergraduate admissions application: http://www.online-criminal-justice.info/docs/app_pkg.pdf and pay the $50 application fee.
- If official transcripts are not issued in English, they must be translated, not evaluated. This is important because PSU will not accept evaluated transcripts. WES does not do translations. Students will need to request two official transcripts. The first original transcript will go to the enrollment advisor; the second original transcript will go to the certified translator of their choice. Once translated, official documents will go to enrollment. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERYTHING REMAINS SEALED IN ENVELOPE. (Some international schools will go ahead and translate the transcript so it may not be necessary to find a certified translator or order a second transcript.) Portland State will accept unofficial transcripts if the student has them but they must submit official transcripts by the end of their first term as a student.
- Student must demonstrate English Language proficiency. Applicants can submit the following test scores: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): minimum score of 525(paper based test) or 197(computer based test) OR International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 6.5 and a minimum of 6.0 in each section. Prospective students that are Canadian, US citizens or permanent residents are not required to demonstrate English proficiency.
