Portland State University's Online Criminology & Criminal Justice Program Prepares to Graduate First Class.

Since 2006, The Division of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJ) in the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University has offered an Online Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. In this short period the program has grown to over 230 active students, drawing applicants from more than 40 states and two countries. In June 2008, the first graduates from the program will walk at the Commencement ceremony.
For those students who were unable to travel to campus, the online option has meant they could study from their homes, offices or anywhere they had access to a computer and the Internet. Nine out of ten students from the program are already employed full time, many in law enforcement or with another criminal justice agency. Most of the students say they would not be able to pursue their Bachelor's degree if it were not for the online opportunity provided by the CCJ program.
Students in the online bachelor's degree program receive an extensive criminology and criminal justice education with courses on topics including: Crime Analysis, Policing in America, Crime, Grime and Fear, Crime Control Strategies and White Collar Crime. The program utilizes a number of different technologies to deliver a challenging and rewarding curriculum backed by Portland State University's knowledgeable faculty and staff.
In addition to the online Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice, the College or Urban and Public Affairs also offer online certificates. Students can earn certificates in the American Justice System, Advanced Crime Analysis and a Post-baccalaureate certificate in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Prospective students interested in the program can begin their education in winter, spring, summer or fall (start dates). Like on campus students, online students are eligible for many different kinds of financial aid and tuition assistance.
